Nevis Range nr Fort William (2 hours)
Just along from Ben Nevis, on the same hill used by skiiers (link to Further Afield/Skiing) in winter, Nevis Range has a fantastic mix of gentle forest trails and white-knuckle downhills, including the 1.75-mile World Championship trail that drops 555 exhilarating metres from the top of the gondola. 4 minutes 35 seconds is the time to beat!
Wolftrax, Laggan (2 hours)
On the western edge of Cairngorm National Park, this great centre near Newtonmore has a couple of cool skills areas, and 20 miles of graded pistes through Laggan forest, with fabulous views of the Monadhliath Hills.
